The revived story of a South Bohemian Christmas
Premiere 27. 11. 2022
Apples, nuts, the smell of Christmas and the snow-covered countryside of our great-grandmothers outside the windows. A poetic and gentle staging of two key works about Christmas in South Bohemia, Jakub Jan Ryba’s Czech Christmas Mass, and a selection from Holy Year Music by Adam Václav Michna of Otradovice. With this performance, we wish to introduce a new Christmas tradition.

Beautiful, poetic and symbolic language, a performance that speaks to the spectator and offers you the opportunity to pause in the pre-Christmas hustle and bustle to see the famous “Ryba Mass” through different eyes. I left the theatre with a tear rolling down my cheek and an all-encompassing feeling of love, humility and happiness. And my mind was filled with the verses of another great Moravi... Whole text

I left the theatre with a tear rolling down my cheek and an all-encompassing feeling of love, humility and happiness. And my mind was filled with the verses of another great Moravian poet, beginning with the words: “Let us give thanks like children for an apple...” Thank you for a wonderful evening on the third Sunday of Advent. Gaudete!

Words, tones, melodies rooted perhaps in each one of us blossomed today not only on stage but also in my soul. Today in the theatre, a star rose in my heart, heralding the advent of the Savior. In the second half, during Jakub Jan Ryba’s Christmas Mass, I was struck by the union and contrast of the human and the divine. Thank you for such a great experience and wonderful start to Advent.
